Fix words in place
I plan on making this one quick. Today I was reading an article about the decline of reading across the country from all ages. I have recently found a love in reading. It ‘s how I spend my train rides. I’ve been able to read so much and reading to the rhythm of the train is soothing.
This morning while I was reading the article, a quote that stuck with me was-
“In oral cultures, Ong says, knowledge is
persevered through repetition,
memories, and stories. Writing and reading,
by contrast, fix words in place.”
This made me appreciate all the writing I personally do. Whether it’s in my numerous journals or here online. I love putting words to paper. I love placing a permanence in my feelings. Some journals I haven’t been able to fully reread because they’re authentic and raw. This sparked me wanting to post when the urge arose, to put my ideas out there when the came, and to be proud of them not matter the length.
