10 ways to show you care about the earth

A few days ago was Earth Day (April 22nd). This day was created in 1970 and is still celebrated to this day all around the globe. However still the government and large companies have yet to meet the need to lower emissions. It is the larger companies that need to alter their way to create a huge shift in climate change. *If you don’t believe in climate change- you probably don’t believe in science & that is sad. Science is real* With that being said, here are some ways that you could personally help change your daily habits to leave a smaller print.

  1. Use a reusable water bottle. I love my water bottle. I always make sure that it is filled wherever I go. If you need filter water, buy a reusable pod that you place inside your water bottle.

  2. Bring and use your reusable bags. Whenever I go out I always make sure to bring at least one bag, I never know what I may find and what easier way to carry it than in a bag. Plus you have no trash when you return to your house.

  3. Air dry your clothes. I have a foldable drying rack that was bought at the local market. I dry my clothes on it all the time all year round. The best time to do it is when it is sunny and warm. The smell of the clothes outside is so nice.

  4. Have plants. Not only do having plants in your home help filter the air but they also create a relaxing natural feeling to the space. If you have the space try to create a garden of your favorite fruits, vegetables, or herbs.

  5. Compost. We all have some type of food scraps (at least you should), which can be put back into the earth. Organic, natural matter such as potato skins, banana peels, coffee grounds, or egg shells. This intern will allow you to properly fertilize your garden.

  6. Walk or bike or public transportation. I don’t own a car and quite frankly I don’t know when I will want to own one. I love walking which is why it is important for me to be able to go out and get necessities. Biking is also a great form of exercise and can get you to explore that much further.

  7. Buy a safety razor. Once you buy one you won’t have to again. All you have to do is replace the blades. I’ve noticed a far cleaner and closer shave. Highly suggest the switch.

  8.  Buy second hand. I have been shopping second hand for so many years. It started when I was a child, my mom would take me to garage/yard sales and thrift stores. It hasn’t stopped for me. I love to go thrifting. I love being able to cultivate my own clothes and style this way.

  9. Recycle. It sounds like a stupid one to make, but properly making sure the containers you place in your recycling bin are clean is crucial. They won’t be recycled. Think about it: why would the workers try and clean out crusty queso that is weeks old from your jar? They won’t. It’ll be tossed to the landfill.

  10. Pick up trash wherever you see it. The consumption of single use plastic has created a mess of trash everywhere. Everyone who is participating in modern society has no reason to not help clean up the mess we as humans have created.

Do it for you, your kids, your siblings, your grandkids, your great grandkids. For all the people you know and don’t. Do it because we don’t have another life and we don’t have another Earth.
