Happy Free 6lack Day
Hi all-
Today is a very special day for me. It is Free 6lack day. The day that the artist 6lack released his debut album - FREE 6LACK. It was released today, November 18, 2016. 5 whole years ago.
I have been listening to 6lack since he only had singles released. Those were his only songs. I simply fell in love with his voice. The whole album has no skips. It is such a wholesome piece of art. Every song I relate to whether it is the current me or the past.
6lack has taught me how to stay true to myself. He has taught me how to not let mainstream ideas influence what you know to be true at heart. In the song Alone/ E6 is where he talks about how he doesn’t want to create music that sells out fast. He doesn’t want to make a quick song off a beat because he then becomes that beat. Nobody then knows him for him. I truly respect that. In that same song he talks about how he feels something big in his chest and it’s going to have a ripple effect on people. I felt that versus in my heart, BUT now even more so.
6lack significantly helped me through every year that I have had this album. Whenever I need something to put on, this is the album. He gave me the courage to attend my first ever solo concert. It was for his tour of East Atlanta Love Letter. The concert happened to be on the 2 year anniversary of FREE 6LACK. So much love for an artist was there that night. My love for 6lack was just that, MY love. I didn’t discover him through someone else. I found him myself. I grew to love him by myself. I didn’t know a single person that enjoyed his music as much as I did. I was tired of waiting for someone to share concerts with me. That’s when I decided to go alone. It was SO worth it. Don’t wait around to find others to do things that make you happy.
So not only is today a huge birthday for an album that may my #1 overall, but also for me to gather the courage to attend a concert alone. I am so glad the fear of going alone didn’t stop me from seeing an artist I really wanted to.
I’ve already listened to the album once, but I don’t think it would hurt to listen to it again.
